How this calculator works

VA combined ratings

The VA does not simply add ratings together. We use the official combined-rating formula: each disability is applied to the remaining "non-disabled" capacity in descending order of severity.

Bilateral factor

When ratings exist on both arms or both legs, we combine that pair first, then add a 10% bilateral factor before merging it into the overall rating — exactly how the VA does it.

2026 rates

Monthly payment amounts use the basic and added-amount tables effective December 1, 2025, published by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
